Lincolnshire medium Sylvia Watts is back on the nation’s
screens after overcoming a nervous breakdown.
Sylvia, 46, of Hemswell near Gainsborough, has
set up her own spiritualism business Working4Spirit with husband
Nick, who also suffered from a nervous breakdown in the late
90s.
The couple, who have been married for 12
years, have helped each other through their respective illnesses
and now have gone into business together with the help of
employment specialists Working Links.
After a ill-fated move into the retail sector
where she lost thousands of pounds opening up a shop in Lincoln,
Sylvia decided to re-use her natural skills as a medium and
psychic.
Sylvia, who is originally from Shropshire,
said: “I heard and sensed spirits from a very early age. I was
taken to see a psychiatrist when I was a child, because of what I
saw and heard so it was a natural career choice when I decided to
look at my options.
“I loved working as a medium on TV in London
for a channel on Sky but I couldn’t work in the atmosphere of that
channel, which I left more than four years ago. The stress with the
shop and our house is why I ended up having a nervous breakdown 18
months ago.”
Twelve months on from the breakdown, Sylvia
walked through the doors of Working Links in Gainsborough to seek
help and advice on getting back into the industry she loved. She
was assigned to back-to-work consultant Janet Holland to help her
on her way.
Sylvia added: “The people at Working Links
have been brilliant. Janet has helped me so much; she was able to
talk to me about what benefits I was entitled to and how I could
move back into paid employment slowly. She helped bring my
confidence back up to a level where I knew I could go back to
work.
“Then I was headhunted by Psychic and Soul on
Sky channel 885 to go back to doing TV medium work. They have been
fantastic about letting me go back part-time and moving back
full-time when I’m ready.
“It’s amazing how far I have come in the last
six months with the help from various people.”
Sylvia now works alongside her husband Nick
who, also through the help of Working Links, is employed as
Sylvia’s driver and is also taking courses to enter the world of
crystal therapies.
Nick said: “I used to work in the
technological industry before the stresses and strains got to me
and I eventually had a nervous breakdown. I have a degree in
Physics but haven’t worked in 12 years so I thought it might be
time for a change. I now drive Sylvia to and from the studios where
she works to ensure she is stress-free and I’m taking courses so I
can offer my services in crystal therapy.
“It’s a change in lifestyle for me – and for
the better. I am not stressed and I’m helping people so I’m very
happy.
As well as the medium, psychic and crystal
