Frontline experts say the care and security sectors are key
to driving unemployment figures.
Employment and skills experts Working Links
today (4 August 2010) issues its inaugural quarterly labour market
intelligence bulletin, The Pulse.
The Pulse gives an
insight into the UK employment market, combining official data from
the Office for National Statistics and frontline evidence from
today’s welfare to work industry.
Latest statistics put the UK unemployment
figure at 2.47 million, with the finance sector showing the largest
growth in terms of vacancies over the last three months compared
with the same period in 2009.
But Working Links has found that the fall in
claimant count is in no small part due to an increase in vacancies
in the successful care and security industries.
Commenting on the current trends, Working
Links’ National Business Manager John Gregory, said: “Our employer
solutions teams are working with businesses across the UK covering
all sectors but the clear trend is that – despite the statistics –
those in the care and security sectors are looking to hire more of
our customers than others.”
The West Midlands area showed the greatest
growth in vacancies, with almost 50% more jobs, while Scotland
showed the least growth with just a 2.5% increase in vacancies.
The Pulse is
issued as part of Working Links’ celebrations marking their
achievement of helping 150,000 people into work over the last ten
years. The Pulse will
be produced and issued on a quarterly basis.
