Racing to tackle unemployment together

Press release date : 4 June 2009

We are holding a partnership event to find out how many different organisations can work together to provide help to over 5,000 unemployed people on health-related benefits into work across Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Swindon over the next three years.

On:                        Thursday 11 June 2009, 12.30pm

At:                         Cheltenham Racecourse, Gloucestershire, GL50 4SH

The government-funded Pathways to Work programme began in April 2008, and already the teams have seen hundreds of jobseekers seek help returning to work.

The event brings together organisations such as Jobcentre Plus, North Wessex Training, Gloucester Works, Sunrise Training, BUPA, Glevum Training and many other local providers. The new Mayor of Cheltenham will also be attending on the day to acknowledge three exceptional residents who have overcome multiple barriers to get back to work.

The day will culminate with a spectacular RAF Parachute display to mark this momentous first step to working together as a force for good.

We work closely with employers to match the skills of our jobseekers to those required to fill their vacancies. And both in-house and external training is available for people who lack the skills needed for a position.

Nationally, since our inception in 2000, we have helped over 110,000 people into work and over 80% are still working a year later. We believe that tackling worklessness helps address poverty and creates community cohesion.
