After working in the beauty industry for over
thirty years, Susan Hallam, 50, left full time employment in 2008
as she was suffering from anxiety, depression and panic attacks.
She said: “I was ill for a while but didn’t want to admit it to my
family. Then a time came just before Christmas last year when
enough was enough – I wanted to sort it out.”
Susan came to Working Links in Swansea in
January 2009, eager to find out more about the available help with
employment. She met with Working Links Consultant Keri Harris who
helped her on her journey into self-employment. After receiving
mentoring support and guidance from Working Links, Susan met with
business experts to help her set up her new mobile beauty therapist
business to capitalise on the Christmas party period.
Susan said: “We launched Beauty Makeovers @
Home in November and I’ve been very busy ever since. It’s a great
feeling to be independent and I know if I put the effort it, I will
get the rewards. I’ve got appointments for Christmas parties and
the word is getting around. A year ago I would never have believed
that I would be in this situation – health wise and job wise.”
