ASDA and Working Links join forces to bring jobs to Stockton

Date: 26 March 2008

ASDA has teamed up with Working Links for help in filling up to 60 new jobs at its extended Portrack store in Stockton, which is due to open in May.

A range of opportunities are on offer, from customer service jobs on the shop floor to positions in the warehouse, and full and part-time hours and night shifts are available.

Previous experience is not essential, just the right attitude and being able to demonstrate good team-work and customer service skills.

People taking part in any of Working Links’ programmes across the Tees Valley can apply for the vacancies. The company specialises in helping unemployed people overcome any challenges they may have so that they can return to work, and since 2002 has helped more than 11,000 people across the North East get back into work.

Paddy Whaley, from Working Links, said: “The opening of the new Portrack store is great news for local jobseekers. These jobs are a fantastic opportunity for someone to make the move back into work, even if it has been some time since their last job.

“At Working Links, we recognise that people sometimes face issues that can make it difficult for them to find work. But that’s where we can help. We treat everyone as an individual and tailor our support to their circumstances, whether it’s help with improving their skills or support to boost their confidence and motivation.”

The recruitment for the new Portrack store is the first project to come out of a new partnership agreed by ASDA and Working Links. Working Links will be supporting ASDA with recruitment for all of its 21 stores in the North East, giving people in some of the region’s most deprived communities the chance to move forward.

Chris Stone, Colleague Relations Manager for ASDA, said:"Through our partnership with Working Links, we aim to help people across the North-East, who may have had difficulty finding suitable employment, get back onto the job ladder.  With this partnership, we look forward to welcoming an array of new colleagues into our stores."
