The Shareholder Executive
was created in September 2003 to improve the government's performance as a shareholder in businesses owned by them. Its remit covers 26 businesses, from companies as large as Royal Mail to smaller trading funds like the UK Hydrographic Office. Its role is to work with government departments and management teams to help these businesses perform better.
